The Noxi a Prisoner sentenced to the arena for some crime or another armed with a short sword and buckler. West wind gladiator figure.
Normally would not have stood much of a chance but his odd's have gone up slightly due to the fact that he is pitted against an Andabata Gladiator who fought blind. Bronze age gladiator figure with a head swaped and replaced with some putty sculpted into an Andabata helmet. The helmet has a few air holes at the bottom but nothing for the eyes...still he is skilled an armed better that the unarmored Noxi

Two of the same Secutor gladiators from bronze age with head swaps with heads from the others in the set. The high plume was made from putty. I really like the set from bronze age miniature they are nicely sculpted and animated.

My last two are slaves on auction, one displaying herself for the buyers and the other in ragged cloths and chains waiting her turn. What will happen to them are they to be household slaves or be sent to train as galdiatrixes?

My attempt at a marble column using an in expensive Cake decoration pillar and a sponge painting technique.

A few unfortunate Gladiators From West Wind and one sculpted by me. The West wind (old glory) gladiators look very rough in the package however I think the paint up nicely.

Two of the same Bronze age miniature Gladiators with head swaps. The Spartacus figure is from a company that I can't remember the name of but it was a nice little figure to paint. And two Bronze age generic males that I have turned into Theokoles the Shadow of death and Doctore from the flash back fight scene with Theokoles.

Dagan the Syrian, from the last fight scene in "Spartacus gods of the Arena" after losing an eye in a fight with Asher.
The last is "Gaia" a Roman noble woman made with sculpting putty and a Bronze age generic female figure. And with what I'll admit is a really big goblet of wine

For the most part they came out OK and were fun to make.

I got the idea for this gladiator from the Starz show Spartacus. In the 1st episode Spartacus fight off four other gladiators who were intent on slaughtering him. One for the gladiators looked much like this.

He started out as a Bronze age generic figure (great company) and a helmet swap from one of their new gladiators figures( I am a sucker for the Secutor helmet). The rest of the armor,belts and clothing was added with "procreate sculptors putty" the Ax and one hand was from a GW bit from my bit box. When you can't find the right figure you want...make it

"Recreational conflicts" hard suit on a "Dragon forge lost empire" base. The figure itself is multi part, with the body,arms,legs.backpack, and a choice of weapons all seperate . It is a nice clean and hefty figure with little clean up needed.
The base I had won in a contest, seemed to fit well with my Atlantis explorer and is a well made base with no defects.
I used a simple copper and sliver paint job to give him(or her) a Steampunky look. This figure is on my list to get more of in the near future.

Battle for the Airfield
WWII Reenactment and WWII Living History Weekend
October 8th and 9th
Today I went with my friend and his family to see a WWII living history reenactment at the collings foundation a little gem of a place That I had no idea was around.

After a walk through the museum areas with old cars and planes.

It was off the the German encampment. They had a bit of everything there. an Opel truck, a stug,
motorcycle, horse troopers, half track, Storch scout plane and 2 88MM cannons plus a bunch of infantry.

The battle started with a bang, a big bang, as the 88s shot down an American plane and captured the pilot. The allies(including a few Russian troops moved forward and the battle was on. The allied armor with 2 Sherman,whites scout car,a Chaffee, Stewart and a half track with a quad 50 + infantry moved up the field.

but after the loss of a Sherman Chaffee and Stewart the final Sherman took out the last 88 and charged forward winning the day for the allied side. After the battle we went over to the ailed camp for some photos and to look at the tanks.

My friends boys had a nice time but my friend and his brother in law and myself had a better time.

First of my Post apocalyptic figures from LAM figures (Ruin raiders). I really liked this figure and bought the whole pack just for this one but found the rest of the pack really cool too. The shotgun shells are from Secret weapons miniatures and come 50 to a pack.

The figure itself was very easy to clean up with just a slight mold line, and just enough detail to make it fun to paint. Very simple paint job with subtle colors as it is a PA world, pretty drab.

The figure, a To'ok hero rescuing a fallen trooper is a really cool figure with little clean up need, nice simple details and fun to paint. I would love to see a range of the unarmored infantry figure in this range. recommended for Sci fi lovers.

The Zombiesmiths figure was reworked a bit and I added a Shotgun to him. The second two are from Reaper The one with the Guitar was painted as is and I really enjoyed trying to get the guitar right(I think I did) the other one I swapped out a handgun for the rolling case he was dragging behind him. i just wanted him to have a bit more firepower.

the first group are my 1st attempt at sculpting 15 15mm, A roman nobleman and a gladiator. The rest of the pictures show the 4 basic gladiators from rebel and some conversion I made with head and weapon swaps. The unpainted ones are the 4 types sold by rebel as is.

the 2nd set are all different with shield changes and head swaps the 1st set are the same but painted in a different color with the last re sculpted as an arena official

15mm Sci fi Winter outpost crew

On a recent posting on Dropship horizon they asked what 15mm you would like to see, my respond was some crew in winter gear. The only ones I have found so far were from GZG and should be on their way across the pond and into my clutches soon. In the mean time I took some figure from my GZG collection did a few head swaps and pushed some putty and made my own(about 40 so far). 1st is Professor H. Vanderbilt Smith and his daughter Mindy. A few of the female staff (with Svetlana the head of base security) a few of the male staff and a few troopers with MA-01(Max) one of the base androids. More to come and I hope you like them.

15 mm gladiators

Rebel miniatures just came out with some really cool gladiators in 15mm. As of now they only have a pack of four for $2.99. They are a Hoplomacus(with spear) a Myrmillo/Dimachaerii, a Thracian and a Not Theokoles from the show Spartacus(although he is not any bigger than they others) All the figures are well sculpted with nice detail and were fun to paint up. I really hope they make some more.

I had bought 2 sets so I could convert one set into other gladiators. One of the Theokoles I made into a Retiarii adding a net and arm armor out of putty(I am still working on the trident) I took one of the Dimachaerii and cut off his sword and gave him a shield,The Thracian lost his head and I sculpted a new Standard type hoplomacus helmet in its place.

The last two are a standing Secutores and a Roman noble, ready to deliver a verdict. both of these I sculpted out of putty and Dollies from "Splintered light miniature" I think they came out OK. I liked the Roman it actually came out close to the actor I was going for.(Titus Calavius the magistrate in Spartacus)

The last is a comparison shot with a GZG Sci fi civillian on the left and a "rebel miniature" police Gang squad trooper on the right.

I saw this picture online and thought it would make a cool project.
Some slight changes were made to fit the materials I was using, but I am trying to stay pretty close to the concept drawing.

I started out with a few electrical boxes as the core of the structure, then covered it with plastic card. I used Pegasus (?) Chemical plant parts for piping and railings and some old toy parts as well.

The Gun turret was made with plastic tubing and an old fire alarm housing.
The first track was made with old toy parts but they just did not seem beefy enough so I made my own using old caps from water bottles and other caps along with a plastic card strips. it came out Ok now I just need to make 3 more.

The next step will be the top big gun and decking, just trying to figure out the configuration.

Giants walk amongst us

I had recently bought a bunch of pre painted heroclix, D&D figures and I am in the midst of repainting them. I have started with some really nice giants.

1^st up is an earth giant. It’s a fairly strait forward job of earth tones with a dry brushing in lighter shades and some moss on the arms. It looked much better than the original paint job and did not take long to do. He is a pretty large figure and was really cheap, about $5

Next is a smaller giant (I know oxymoron) but he is. He was another Ok pre paint job but I thought I might do better. He is a hill giant, in barbarian style of dress and would work great in any barbarian army. He is heavily muscled and swinging a large spiked club he also has a great expression on his face which is what I really liked about this figure.

My last giant started out as an Iron hill giant from “Mage knight” he had a boiler on his back with dwarves riding on his shoulders and even though it was a cool figure the way it was, I wanted a more normal looking giant. 1^st I removed all the dwarves, the armor on his shoulders and the boiler on his back. Then using pro create putty I rebuilt his arms from the elbows up and added a fur collar quilted animal skin cloaked to his back.(that stuff is great to work with) I started the painting and finished him up in a few days, once again for $7 I had a pretty cool looking giant.

All of the giants were pre painted and fairly cheap money, that being said they are really nicely sculpted figures in great poses and even though they are the rubber type click stuff these were real very sold and well worth the cost.

“Old Number four is acting up again for the third time thismonth! Send G’wible , G’wible will fixit.” “Me again why is it always me who gets old number four”, The Quar shrugged. “She is way out on the range and Zablan is one dam hot planet, Ohwell, it’s a job”

The Quar put on his cooling suit, helmet, and environment packand armed himself with a blaster “those dam venomous Spinks might be lurkingaround, can never be too careful , one bite form them and old number four won’tbe the only thing in need of repairs” he said as he slapped the cartridge into the weapon.

He dropped the ramp door down and clamored up into good oldD7. D7 was one of the more reliable DROFmotors B86 Road utility surface buggies. Tough, powerful and reliable, that what she is. G’wible hoped into the cockpit started her upand looked out thought the front green tinted viewport. “Ok old girl back out to Old number four and let’s see if we can get her fixed”. D7s engine roared up and she rolled out of the base onto the shifting sand and into the hot Zalban sunlight.

The B86 DROF motors Road utility surface buggy, great in all environments, High towing capacity good cargo space, fully contain interior living space with numerous cup holder. A Giggs a Strotum power plant gives her plenty of power when it counts.

Zep the second of my Nomad Quar of the Sun clan

I Used a D&D bulette for the mount and a Quar militia figure for the rider(Zep) I re adjusted the Bulettes head a bit to give him a different look and filled the gaps with putty. The saddle and accoutrements were also made from putty with the rope being string soaked in white glue.
I am hoping to get a few more done soon.

1^st is a Sci fi Water reclamation plant made out of a Advil bottle, Dental rinse bottle cap, a cap from a water bottle, some plastic rod and green stuff.

Second is a house/building? Made from a pudding cup and a round plastic ornament. Both are still WIP but have worked out pretty good so far. A few more touches then figure out what colors to paint them and done.

I completed my nomad.

The beast has natural leather armor for defense and a big mouth for offense. Although fairly docile when not hungry, they can be very dangerous in a fight. I attempted a Gila monster pattern for the skin as suggested (used a picture from Google) It came out ok.

Zoltan the Quar rider is well armed with rifle, grenade and a pistol not to mention a big shovel. And old torn poncho keeps the sun off him along with his sun hat and heavy sun goggles. He bares the symbol that denotes him as a member of the sun clan. The rods on the side are his tent poles and he is laden with various pots and packs. He was a fun little guy to create I hope you like it.

Theockoles the Shadow of Death

This is my rendition of Theockoles the Shadow of Death from Starz Channels Spartacus

Made using a Bronze Age game generic figure, 2 swords, and some brown stuff putty for sculpting that I used for the boots, greaves, arm bands, skirt belt and hair. I always like this character in the show, although he did not last long which is too bad because he was pretty cool.

The figure itself is actually to small next to other Bronze age figures, Theockoles was suppose to be like 8 feet tall. But I used what I had on hand. The tattoo is free hand and with my eyesight I think it came out fairly good.

The other three figures are also Bronze Age generic figures that have been reworked but are still WIP at this time. More to come

Alithean light armored tractor By Zombiesmith

A quick paint job on the new Quar Ailthean light tractor from Zombiesmith. Painted up as a the dreaded, hated crusaders of Alykinder (this might be the start of a Crusader force for my wonderful Royalist to shoot at)
As you can see there were a few air bubbles with some missing rivets but all in all the kit is nicely done. The kit comes in 10 pieces along with a half quar driver:(which I did not include) the main body turret and bottom half, two treads , Main gun, smoke stack, hatch and 3 climbing rungs. Everything goes together fine and is nicely detailed, the only issues was the air bubbles that I might replace and fix later but I did not have anything on hand to do it with at this time so I just did the paint job.

Power Loader: I made this from various parts in my bit box (waste not want not). I bit more work on sanding down some parts and then onto the painting.

The Heavy Weapon Gunner: was made from an old Disney toy laser cannon of which I used other parts for other projects and had a few of these left over, putty and bits from my bit box.

Spent the night lopping off arms and heads and repositioning them creating whole new looks, leaving me with 2 new groups.

. Set 2, Trooper with rifle, a Hero with a plasma fist/club, and a heavy weapons trooper with missile launcher.

. Set 3 a mechanic with a giant Wrench, a Salvager worker carrying a pipe, and one twisting to the side.

Later I need to do some gap filling, adding some hands and re sculpting new fur. onward and upward.

New Alien Ship's crew

The Start of a new alien ship’s crew.
I started with the Wiz Kid Star Wars figure of a Yuzzem, bear like race and a pretty cool figure as is.

This is the finished figure after a repaint.

I did the first one without any additions to see how it would paint up (being the plastic bendy stuff they make them out of). I had repainted one clix figure before(see my kid zombie hunters) and I like how it turned out so I thought I would try again. He turned out ok if I don’t say so myself so I bought some more to do a Crew (well I bought like 20 of them) and at less than a dollar a piece how can you go wrong.

Now for the crew I did not want all the same look so I reworked the first set of five, cutting off arms and repositioning them added new weapons, scars, closing the mouths, just to add some variations. The Clixy figures are pretty soft and cut easily so that was not a problem. I then filled in some gaps with putty, re-sculpted some fur and there you have it 5 different (well different enough) figures. On the next set I will try the reposition a few heads and leg, we will see how that turns out.

Most of the alien weapons were made from GW bits and other part from my bit box.

The next set will have an Engineer/medic/ maybe a very heavy weapons trooper/ one carrying something? Who knows? Any suggestion would be appreciated

2nd of 4 ships I am working on for my space colony. An older model alien fighter bought on the cheap repaired and converted into another small colony transport ship. Able to transport small cargo and a small number of passengers and still fight is way out of any trouble.
This ship started out as a toy Battle Star Galactica Cylon raider, I added a bottom level along with a transport pod out of plastic card. For fun I added the cockpit and interior.

The 42nd messenger corps are well known for their daring in getting messages through and fast mostly due the diligent training of the members and their well trained Pyk pyks. But along with Pyk Pyks, the messenger corp. is fond of the Chwyrlia Fen, one Quar buggy. The Fen as it is often called is made mostly of engine and holds 1 Quar relatively uncomfortably, however what it gives up in comfort it gains in speed and ruggedness.

This is another trash to treasure project that I did one afternoon while catching up on some DVR’ed TV shows.

I took a box of bits and parts and pick a hand full out saying “ok what can I make with these?” A small propeller, a part from a smoke detector, some toy parts, a plastic mortar carriage and some scrape plastic sheets as well as a bit of imagination. The two Quar are made out of some brown stuff putty, two old toy bodies sculpted a bit more Quar shaped and spare Quar heads.
Not to bad for an afternoon.

From the Frozen north of Sleveen comes a White Quar Royalist Expeditionary Scout Fan Sled.
The Fan sleds of the White Quar Royalist keep track and harass the invading Crusaders at ever turn. Fast and agile the fan sleds skim over the snow and ice of the northern region reporting back on the locations and movement of the enemy, Packs of sled mount fast attack on Crusader outpost and convoys.
Though the fan sled itself is not armed it is Manned (or Quared) by two ryflers Wrapped in heavy winter uniforms and Fur hats. The driver and gunner are eached armed with a herlech ryfels and a Cryfen LMG, when in packs (usually four sleds) one will be armed with a Meakyna heavy MG. The sleds carry enough supply’s stored behind the seat and extras mounted on the sides to last a week.

A Quar spiritual leader walks out carrying the scared box of ashes Caerten Nad Jou who fell at the battle of Nor-e-Mac Valley. Resting on the purple velvet cushion is the wooden hand of Caerten Jou which was all that remained of the fallen hero. I made him out of brown stuff putty and a extra Quar head from my bit box.

I love reaper figure especially the Chronoscope range. They are great figure for painter and you have such a wide range to choose from, as seen here. For the most part they are fairly easy to clean up but they do suffer from lots of mold lines so you need to put some time into your prep work.

New Spy for KKBB is British agent Agatha Fox. I love this figure and Andrew Rae is fast becoming a one of my favorite sculptors. Loved his work and this figure is so simple, so cool, so deadly.

Next is my female space smuggler who had some very big hair and a slightly large head. When choosing a color scheme I was reminded of Chiana (sp) from Farscape so I went along that route with a bluish gray skin color I think it worked well.

Super Hero "The...?

here is the first of my super heroes, he came out nice but I had no idea of what color to paint him, I really liked the way he looked after I primed him black so I stuck to that and then added a green that I was using on another figure, "POW, BANG!! he was finished. It was only after I finished him that I noticed he looked the Green Lantern oh well as long as they don’t show up at the same party he should be ok.

I did a couple of more citizens for my western town of Hellish Wells. First up is a bartender who was done right out of the package and was an easy paint job.

The second is my Undertaker who started out as an Uncle Sam figure. I removed the stars from the hat band and added a few ribbons down the back of it, other than that a simple black paint job and done.

A few new 15mm done last night.
1st GZG gray aliens and ship, The grays paint up quick seeing that there is little detail (what you would expect for a grey) and the saucer is a toy that a friend gave me which I have repainted.

Next are the Crusties very District 9 looking with cool alien guns, sorry my photos don’t do them justice they are actually really nice. I used a few shades of brown and added some yellow and red spots and stripes. I went with bright colors of sliver and copper for the weapons as they did in the movie. These were some of the feebies that I got from my Christmas order with GZG I see a few more in my future :)

Lastly is an off world explorer (or this world if you want) this is a match box car that I have repainted. I think it came out pretty good if I don’t say so myself. The vehicle came in a box of 5 for $5 but I was only able to use this one from the pack but my 3year old great niece sure did like the rest, an excellent bargain all around. Next time I need to take a before picture.

As usual with the GZG figures they are fun and quick to paint but I still have a bunch to do so back to work.

I have just started in with 15mm and I am having fun painting the little, little fellows up. I have started with a large purchase from GZG with a
HI-MOBILITY WHEELED Battle Force:
Contains 5 x Infantry Packs, 2 x Paladin wheeled MBTs, 2 x Bobcat light combat vehicles, 3 x Phalanx APCs, 1 x Bulldog command truck, plus packs of extras and assorted accessories
As well as a bunch of figure packs, I have also just ordered a bunch from Rafm and Stan Johansson (sp) miniatures.

the Truck seemed to fit in very well with 15mm sci fi figures and could work as another explorer vehicle, APC or work truck, luckily While out Christmas shopping yesterday I found a pack of matchbox cars with the very same vehicle in it for $5.49 the pack came with 5 different vehicles with which 3 fit in pretty good.
The 1st is the exploration vehicle it actually comes in 2 pieces the main truck and the rear cab which slides back to reveal a control center. I removed the control center to use in something later; now with the cabin removed you can make this into any number of configurations, flat bed, antiaircraft troop truck or anything else your imagination can come up with. This one I am doing as is (I am going to buy more) and for a dollar you can’t really go wrong.

The 2nd truck is a sci fi hummer, it too has a rear compartment that lifts up, inside it looks to be some sort of tracked ATV but I have not remove the inside of this one. Great little vehicle for Sci fi or post apocalyptic settings.

The 3rd vehicle that I am using is a helicopter. On this one I have removed the plastic side pods,the rotors and the tail section. I am going to try to make this a VTOL craft I just need to make some fans and re add the tail section or another engine (not sure what I will use yet)

My Foray Into the world of 15mm Sci fi begins with GZG figures. I picked up a bunch of packs from GZG recently because I thought they looked really nicely sculpted for 15mm (?) (Plus I liked firefly and the space traders looked great)

The figures overall are really nice and the service from GZG was fantastic. I have done a bunch so far so more pictures will be up soon, these I did in the last few hours at work.

The first is a not Wall-E figure which I just thought was co cool and even though its suppose to be 15mm it would look fine next to a 28mm figure too.

The second group is my crew of the Chinese trader ship (Insert Chinese trader ship name here I have not come up with one yet) I am hoping that GZG will do some more figure with the neck yoke uniform. The girl/guy with box and guy with gun had the burgundy shoulder /neck parts painted on the others were sculpted on, it just made for a nice cohesive crew uniform look.

All in all I am very pleased with these and they are fun to paint, and I can highly recommend GZG 15mm for those interest.

Prince Trepur + Euzkadi tank

Just a couple of new pictures of my Quar for my Royalists army.
First off is Prince Trepur, A brilliant cavalry officer known for his flamboyancy as well as his reputation as a dullest, which has been frowned upon by his family a the Royal court. The Quar Syrnol figure was used for the conversion of Prince Trepur, I removed the right arm with a xacto and files and using green stuff I made a new arm and pistol for the classic dueling stance. The neck scarf was repositioned so it would line up with the head looking off to the right and the buttons were removed to make the jacket double breasted (the 17th cavalry, Crimea was used as a partial inspiration)

The second figure is my balloon observer who shall be riding high in the Observation balloon soon. Here he is positioned next to my new Black Army Euzkadi Tankette. The only modification I have made to him is the removal of the oil can from his right hand and a small pack was added to his back as a parachute.

The Euzkadi tankette arrived this morning, excellent fast service from Black Army. The Tankette is a small cute little thing which is really well cast. I have looked it over and a few bit of sanding is all that it needs. I found no miss casts, pin holes or air bubbles, really nice. The only other thing that needs to be fixed is the gun barrels, the attachment holes need to be re-drilled out but that’s a simple fix
I am using both Tanks for my Quar light cavalry (sorry to the Spanish civil war purist but I don’t have any SCW figures…yet) But they are really tiny next to the Tanks I built.

King Zombies Zombies

Kingzombie has just come out with a new of Zombies. 28mm (?) 1st responders and survivors for $39.99
You get 20 figures in the set. 19 humans and 1 dog. All of them are nicely sculpted (but big somewhat comical and chucky) and very gory.

1st up are the survivors. You get 5 in the set.

2 females; 1 paramilitary and one Milla Jovovich type and 3 males; one with a shot gun, one with a big handgun and a machete and 1 Swat type realoading his weapon. All of them have a nice look to them with some personality if as I mentioned a bit comical. All the figures in the set come with bases already molded on(some will like that and others wont) I would rather not have the bases but they are done well so I will do them as is.

I am still not sure on the base for the Swat guy but I am pretty sure that he is standing on a mound of ammo clips and casings (talk about holding your ground)

The male with the machete is also a nice figure but the Machete is very thin and more realistic than those over sized thing some figures have (you know the tree trunk spears) That being said within a few seconds of painting it snapped right off, like I said very thin. I had trouble with the paint on these and you really need to give them a good scrubbing so the paint sticks. I now have to strip the paint and redo them.

The Zombies in the set are all either SWAT, National Guard, Cops or Paramedics.
The paramedics have 1 male, 1 female. The male has his back torn open and is in the process of eating a hapless victim; the female is in a jump suit with her jaw torn off (like I said Gory) she is carrying a very nicely sculpted and realistic medical bag over her shoulder and you can tell that there was some research done on these sculpts.

Next are 2 Cops: again 1 male 1 female. The female has the ugliest face I have seen but because of that she painted up really nice and scary looking. The male cop is one of my favorites out of the set he is on his knees having lunch(what's for dinner, the other white meat)

There are 4 Swat Zombies Three seen here in various stages of zomibfication the one on the ground is missing the lower half of his torso and is dragging his guts along the way.

The Dog came as a Zombie dog but I don’t like my animals to be zombies(just people) so I filled in the bite marks so now he is just a pissed off K-9.

The rest of the set has 2 fire fighter 1 dragging the Jaws of life behind him (how ironic) another cop being shot through the eye and blowing the back of his head off, another SWAT team member who arms I broke off during some paint stripping and 2 male/1female national guard troopers.
It was unfortunate that I had must not have cleaned the figures enough during preparation for my paint just seemed to bubble up, crack and peel off as you can see in the photos. I would recommend taking extra time with these and give them an extra good scrubbing before priming.

So far I am enjoying painting this unique and interesting Zombie/Survivor set and I would recommend these for anyone into the Zombie figure craze.

Hasselfrees Bohkin (Space Goblins) are very nice figures and they give my Grymns something to face off against. Only 2 of them are as is the rest have been reworked into some more dramatic poses I really liked how the leader has his pistol drawn and hand out. in a”hand over your weapon” pose and how the running guys turned out. its amazing what you can get with just a few bends and cuts.

Zombie hunters

Next a few survivors and zombie fighters. 1st is a Griffin miniature fire fighter, Coppelstone agent, and a West Wind golfer. I had reworked the golf bag to make it a bit more realistic, it’s really awful the way it came. The photo also gives you a bit of a comparison look; I think they look pretty good together. Next would be the guy with the a Bat also from West Wind and two kids from a clix game (?) they came as one piece so I had to saw them apart then fill in with some putty and sand down and then a repaint. I t was not hard to do and there are some nice clix base figure out there and they are cheap. Next are the Cops the two males are West Wind and the female is from Griffin. The West winds are not bad figures but not great either I just wish they put more effort into getting the police equipment right. Check out the review on http://thescreamingalpha.com/ He does some nice reviews. I had liked the female cop from Griffin at first I though her gun was malformed but then I realized she is in the process of pulling back the slide on the weapon I thought that was a nice touch. Lastly is my Baseball guy again but next to him is a Thugz Figure of a girl with her baby, I love this figure! It is beautifully sculpted and well proportioned. I think the baby came out nice even though it’s a bit cabbage patchy, but it still looks like a baby. Oppps sorry the pictures are out of order :)

Zombies
I got a lot of painting done this week. 1st the Zombies, all of them are from Studio Miniature except for the Zombie Cop which is from Crocodile Games. My pictures really don’t do justice to the figures but they are really nice with lots of details. I used some green stuff the various items on the ground (newspapers, magazines, coffee cups, cell phone, and purse. Film reel and clap board) just to add a bit to the bases. The Wendy’s sign was made from a broken up Wendy’s spoon (I got with my chili) it worked really well, and I have saved a few to use if I build a Wendy’s building.

My last groups are my two Sci fi offerings. First is Diva Plavalaguna from the Movie the 5th element. I am also working on a Stewardess and a Police Officer from the movie. She is mostly brown stuff with Parts again from Bronze Age miniature. I just really had liked the movie and the character and I doubted anyone would make the figures so I made one for myself. Heresy miniatures do a nice Korbin Dallas and Leloo so I am good with those.

I had loved the figure because I usually wear a Black hoody with an embroidered Badge and cargo pants at work. Well I had some vacation time and nowhere to go, so I sat myself down to do some painting. I got a lot done with just about a bit of everything from Quars to Gladiators. Most are still getting their dull coats applied so more pictures will be up soon and I promise someday I will learn to use this camera a bit better.

1st Up are a few conversions I have done. My Retiarius (Gladiator) was made using one of the generic male body’s from Bronze Age miniatures (fantastic figures) and a bit of putty pushing. I came up with what I feel is a pretty nice figure for my level of sculpting skill, with only one thing I was not happy with but I’ll keep that to myself J It was based on a picture from Angus McBride Gladiator osprey book.

Continuing on with my Sculpting attempts, here is my Retiarius (minus the net) Gladiator. He still needs some work but it’s coming along. I have just started to use the brown putty with the green putty, trying to experiment with the different types and what’s good for what. Comments welcomed.

Here is my finished”Jenny the Farmers Daughter” My fierce sweet down on the farm, girl next door Zombie hunter. The sculpting figure is from Bronze Age miniatures but I sculpted the clothing, boots, and hat. Watch out Zombies she gots that big ol Chainsaw from Paw’s barn and been a slashing up Zombies all over the town YIKESSSSS!!

My attempt at sculpting

Well it’s been a while since I posted here so here is what I have been working on this week. I just bought these great figures from Bronze age miniature and let me say they are great figures and much better in person than the photos would leave you to believe. I had picked up some Sci Fi figures, female barbarians and a bunch of the generic male and female figures to assist me in my sculpting. http://www.bronzeagemin.com/

One of my favorite movies (not the greatest, but I love it) is “The Blood of heroes” with Rutger Hauer. A Really cool Post Apocalyptic movie about a brutal future sport (without a name) with Players called Juggers. These Juggers arm themselves with Pole and chains and attempt to put a Dogs skull on a stick (see the movie)
Unfortunately I could not find figure to go with the movie so I decided to attempt and mind you I said attempt my hand at sculpting(way harder than I expected and way more fun than I expected too) I started with the basic generic nude male and female forms provided by Bronzeage miniatures. The group represents a Jugging team of five in their rag tag (the future in this movie does not look to promising) outfits made from various cast offs, rags, rubber and old tires. I did not find the green putty that hard to work with but I did have trouble getting that really nice smooth surface that the Pros get. I think they came out pretty good if I don’t say so myself let me know what you think.

The other figure (not from the movie) is my interpretation of Jenny the farmer daughter from the Zombie game “Last night on earth” again I used a nude female form from Bronzeage games and pushed around more green stuff. The Chain saw is from Mississinewa Miniatures. All in all I had a great deal of fun making these and will continued to try more sculpting

Finishing up my “Red Flag Express” supply column are the large supply truck load down with goodies and the Smaller Flatbed.

The flat bed originally started out with a big box on the back hiding a big anti air craft type gun which as you can see have been removed and will be used for another time. I loaded it up with some wood planks and posts as well as some nail kegs (repairing a trench or maybe a coffin or two for some hapless crusader)

The Larger truck is mostly as is. The pop up figures (that come with the toy) have been removed and green stuff blanket rolls were added to hide a few hinges. A few other parts were removed and covered over, again with green stuff. Both vehicles had dashboards added to add a bit of flavor and painted up in my Royalist colors (well Zombiesmiths Royalist colors).
These were a lot of fun to do and although they are out of production you can still find them on auction sites if you are so inclined

My Tank of the 7th Royal Armored cavalry attached to 1171st Lower Barro Homeland Bound battalion. And A Water tanker of the 3rd Coftyran Crymuster supply section, “The Red Flag Express”
Both the Tank and the Tanker are from Disney’s, Atlantis the lost empire toys that I picked up on EBay.

The Tanker is mostly as is with the exception of the tarp on the back, which I made out of green stuff to cover a hinge on the back (the barrel originally opened up for a missile to be launch from inside) the roof for the cab was added from another truck and a piece of Plastic card was use for the windscreen to add some protection for the driver. The Quar driver was made with more green stuff over the body of the original driver and a spare Quar Head.

The Tank was made from another Disney toy along with lots of plastic card for widening the body, window slits, and hatches for the driver and gunner, rear hatch and the extra armor plating around the turret. The Turret itself was made from the inner plastic ring from some desk tape. The Cannon, flag holder and heavy shotgun mount (I’ll have to pick up another) were all made from bits of extra tubing with the turret hatch being made from my contact lens packaging.
The paint was straight forward using Reaper and Vallejo paints (browns, tans and Iraqi sand highlights) The Flag of the 1171st Lower Barrow Homeland Bound battalion is proudly displayed on one side of the turret and guideon of the 7th cavalry fly’s above.

Frist a few WIP. My James Bond type is almost done but I am not sure about the jacket and tie, a Gamer figure that I picked up on ebay painted with my attempt at a Tie Dye tee shirt. I think it came out pretty good if i don't say so myself and last a Mawe from Hasslefree. A fun figure to do but harder than I thought it would be. Maybe this can be an evil experiment for my villians Mmmmwahahahaha.

On the Good guy’s side are Super Agents Napoleon and Illya. Partners who really will make the bad guys cry Uncle.

Next is Kar Park my Korean Henchman and all around bad guy watch out for his hat or you might lose your head.

Last but not least is Kensington Smythe my English lord with his new Golden gun. Smythe fancies himself a crack shot. Most people have been told that he lost his eye in a royal duel and has been sworn to secrecy but the truth is he shot himself while playing with one of his toys. The only other person who knew the truth was his Chauffer who mysteriously died in a car accident the following week. Smythe is also an agent for my still unnamed evil group.

Next is his favorite assassin Violet Clump. If you see her beautiful face coming at you watch her feet. Violet never goes any place without her favorite brass knuckles

I just received my KKBB figure and really like them. Most will be painted as is but I bought an extra set of KGB men (because I really like them) and another set of Future wars corporate babes 2. As you can see from this picture I started to rework a few and you can see what I added with the brown stuff.
I think that 3 of the girls in the set suite themselves to the KKBB world very nicely. The one with the fur trim was done from a fashion picture from the 60s I found on Google the other 2 I just added an appropriate 60s style hat.
The bald guy I really did not do much to but he is going to be a evil agent named iron head when he is done (a Character from a Matt Helm movie) The guy in the turtleneck will be the man himself Matt Helm (well a cross between the Dean Martin helm and the book Helm) I just added a bit of slicked back hair on him. The 3rd agent is undercover in East Germany I just love that jacket and I thought the cap would add a nice touch as well as the satchel. All are still just WIP at this time.

Santa Quar

Ok, over at the Lead Adventure Forum they are having a small contest just for fun. Being a Quar fan I thought I would do a Santa Quar. So here is my attempt and sorry for the bad photos I need to work on picture taking.
As you can see he started out as a Syrnol(my favorite Quar for converting). I then added the fur, hat, scarf and facial hair with green putty as well as the gift and tag. It was pretty straight forward as was the painting. The colors are a bit muted but he still needs a finished coating maybe that will brighten him up in the photos. Oh well Ho Ho Ho and merry Quaristmas

More Quar WIP

1st up is a Quar heavy mortar.

“Behind the safety of sandbags and trench walls my intrepid 1117st1st Heavy mortarquar takes up his position readying to lob a shell out of the trench and into the hated crusaders across noquars land”.

I took a Quar ryfler that was waiting to be painted, removed his bogen and the accessories that I had already attached. I reworked the arms a bit so that he was posed to be loading a shell. The shell, left hand, knife, back pack and Mortar were bits from GW that I picked up on eBay. The Skull and wing motif were carved off which is very easily done and then put together as is. The right hand was drilled out and the shell was cut from the hand that was attached to it and place in the Quars hand (if I do another like this I will skip this part and just use it with the hand as I did with the left hand) A new base was enlarged from a round lipped base so that it would fit. And that’s about it (now to paint it)

My 2nd WIP is my Special ops trooper.

“Out of the oily black smoke comes a new weapon of war the dreaded Flame Thrower”

I started with a Quar Lt machine gunner in the firing position, added a suitable head with Goggles and snout protection. Then Back to the GW bit box for the weapon itself.
I sanded down the barrel of the gun and replaced the tip with the front piece of a GW flame thrower as well as added the GW tanks to his back. The hose was made from flexible tubing that comes in toy packages used to hold the toy in its box.
Using some brown putty I started to resculpt the skull and cross bones on the flame throwers tanks to be more Quar skull like and I widen the eye sockets with a drill. The Flame itself is from the new line of cinema effects from Armorcast (these are absolutely cool little items to pick up)
And presto another cool looking figure that was really easy to convert.

Quar Cavalry WIP

Here are the 1st 2 of my Quar cavalry unit. I based the uniforms on a light French cavalry unit picture that I saw from WWI. French blue coats with white piping and red pants.
When painting that Cadier (horse type creature) I wanted to do something a bit different (seeing that Zombiesmith went with a very strange looking beastie). I started with various shades of red then added some striping (based loosely on some African animals) the stripping was done with chocolate brown, ivory and a white highlight. They still need a few touch ups and to be dull coated.
I also have not chosen a unit yet so I have not added a flag, but something to continue my Royalist contingent will be in the works.
4 more to paint, along with all the rest, then I am picking up a second set and making a lancer unit. Hope you like them, more to follow…
